To Resize and Optimize - Video

  1. Open native.bmp in ClearyWork >> ClearyData
  2. To resize the image, go to Modify >> Canvas >> Image Size OR click Ctrl+J
  3. Because I want a specific size in inches, I am going to change the horizontal size to 7. The vertical size automatically changes to 5.25. Now photo is now smaller.
  4. To Optimize my photo make sure the Optimize Panel is open.
  5. Because it is a photo, convert it to a .jpg. Click on the 4-Up tabs above the photo. Next, click on each picture and change the Optimize settings. You want the fastest download speed without loosing quality.

Convert to Grayscale Photo - Video or FW_grayscale.html (works best in IE)

  1. Open cms.jpg in ClearyWork >> ClearyData and change it to a black & white photo.
  2. Use the retangle Marquee tool and select photo OR click on Ctrl+A OR Select >> Select All
  3. Click Commands >> Creative >> Convert to Grayscale. Then adjust the intensity to make the photo look great.
  4. Optimize your graphic as a .jpg and save it in for Fireworks folder. 

Specific Selection make Black & White - Video or fireworks_interface.html (works best in IE)

  1. Open skier.jpg in ClearyWork >> ClearyData and make the background black & white.
  2. Use the retangle Lasso tool and select only the skier.
  3. Click on Select >> Select Inverse l
  4. Then, click Commands >> Creative >> Convert to Grayscale. Adjust the intensity to make the photo look great.
  5. Optimize and save your graphic as a .jpg in your Fireworks folder. 

Cropping and Enhancements Video or crop_enhance.html (works best in IE)

Step One: Crop the photo

  1. Open the picture file named jeep.jpg in in ClearyWork >> ClearyData.
  2. With the crop tool, draw a box around the jeep. This will remove the extra background images.
  3. Press enter or double click in the center.

Step Two: Lighten the photo

  1. Because this photo is dark, click on the Filters Menu >> Adjust Colors >> Brightness/Contrast.
  2. Increase the brightness and contrast to improve the picture (up to +20 each).
  3. Click OK.
  4. Notice the changes in the picture.

Step Three: Sharpen the photo

  1. Select the photo, click on the Filters Menu >> Sharpen >> Sharpen.
  2. Click OK.
  3. Notice the changes in the picture.
  4. Optimize and save file as a jpeg.

Blur Video or blur.html (works best in IE)

  1. Open the picture file muddy_jeep.jpg in ClearyWork >> ClearyData.
  2. Holy cow, it is a huge photo. Resize the photo so it is 5 inches in height.
  3. Click on the Lasso Tool to select the only the jeep.
  4. Go to Select >> Select Inverse.
  5. Next, click on Filters >> Blur >> Choose a Blur of your choice.
  6. Adjust the amount.
  7. Optimize and save file as jpeg.

Rubber Stamp Clone the Women - Put the women on the right also on the left. Video or stamp_tool.html (works best in IE)

doubles

  1. Open the picture file lpga_golfer.jpg in ClearyWork >> ClearyData.
  2. Click on the Rotate 90 degrees CCW button on the Toolbar
  3. Click the Clone Stamp Tool. This tool will copy a designated area and then paste (stamp) that area wherever you click.
  4. Change the Brush Size to approximately 19 px.
  5. Press the Alt key and place the pointer in on the top of the women's head on the right.
  6. Click the mouse button. The area under the pointer is copied. Note that the pointer changes to a circle with a plus in the middle.
  7. Continue to move the pointer over the women on the right and click the mouse.
  8. Make sure the women on the right is cloned to be on the left as well.
  9. Note: the + indicates the area that will be cloned. If the + is in the wrong area, you could stamp the wrong color onto a spot. Remember to use the "ctrl Z" to undo.

 

Copy and Paste Combining two pictures - Add the Butterfly to the Frightened Girl - Video or copy_paste.html

  1. Open up butterfly.jpg from ClearyWork >> ClearyDatabutterfly girl
  2. Open the file frightened_girl.jpg from ClearyWork >>ClearyData
  3. Click on the butterfly photo and select the butterfly using the Magic Wand Tool and the Lasso Tool.
  4. Feather the photo slightly (no more than 5 pixels) and then copy the butterfly
  5. Paste the butterfly on the picture of the frightened girl. (She hates butterflies!)
  6. Move the butterfly to exactly where you want.
  7. Because there are now two different layers and we need to make them one layer. To do so, select both layers and click on Modify >> Flatten Selection.
  8. Now, click on the Burn, Dodge, Smudge etc. to make the butterfly look more natural.
  9. Optimize and save as .jpg.

 

Feather a Photo- Video or feather.html (works best in IE)

  1. Open clearys_niece.jpg in ClearyWork >> ClearyData.
  2. Click on the Oval Marquee Tool and to make an oval around that cute little face with funny glasses.
  3. Click on Select >> Feather
  4. Then enter the number of pixels at least 25 (experiment with the numbers)
  5. Click on Select >> Inverse and press delete
  6. Crop photo to make more appealing
  7. Optimize and save photo.

Transparent Background Video or transparency.html (works best in IE)

  1. Open white_truck.jpg from ClearyWork >> ClearyData.
  2. Also open photo1.jpg from ClearyWork >> ClearyData.
  3. Use the Magic Wand Tool and the Lasso Tool to select the truck and large rock.
  4. Select >> Feather (no larger than 5 pixels).
  5. Select >> Inverse. Then click on the delete key.
  6. Click the crop tool and enclose just the white truck. Double click in center.
  7. Use the Erase tool to clean up around the truck and between the roll bars.
  8. Crop your image.
  9. Optimize your image as a .gif file by opening the Optimize Panel. Choose a .gif format and then click on Alpha Transparency or Index Transparency.
  10. Go to File >> Export to save your .gif file
  11. Click on the photo1.jpg graphic. To import, go to File >> Import and find your new .gif file.
  12. Click anywhere on the photo1.jpg.
  13. Now, you can clean up your image by using the eraser tool. Remember, you can change the size of the tool to clean out the windows and the back area by the roll bars.
  14. When done, optimize your graphic as a .jpg and save.

Changing the Levels in a Photo- Video

  1. Open ecuador_farming.jpg in ClearyWork >> ClearyData.
  2. Click on the Filters >> Adjust Color >> Levels
  3. Move the triangle on the left closer to the right
  4. Click OK when you have darkened the photo nicely.
  5. Optimize and save photo.
